T.H.E Show: The Other, Other Show In Vegas

T.H.E Show will go on.

International CES – formerly the Consumer Electronics Show – is the must-attend trade show for all things that fall under the guise of electronics, gadgets, gizmos and devices that we’ll all be watching and drooling over throughout the year.

But the annual event, which sees some 60,000+ people descend upon Las Vegas, isn’t the only show in town in early January. There is another notable show – namely the AVN or Adult Video News conference – that gets a lot of attention as well, though for entirely different reasons. But alas CES attendees: Next month AVN will once again take place a week later than CES, overlapping with the firearms industry conference known as the SHOT Show. That’s right: guns and porn stars in one place.

However, there is the other other show.

That would be T.H.E. Show, also known as The Home Entertainment Show. While it still makes the circuit to New York and California at various times during the year the “big” T.H.E. Show is held in Las Vegas, overlapping as usual with International CES.

“We’ve been going strong for 15 years, and have over 100 exhibitors,” said Richard Beers, CEO of T.H.E. Show. “We solely cater to the high-end audio industry; unlike over at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which has all sorts of computers and other devices.”

So why doesn’t T.H.E. show get as much attention? Simply put, CES is so big, it steals the show. It has a way of doing that. Consider that CES has often overlapped with MacWorld and even the North American International Show (the Detroit Auto Show), and it isn’t hard to see why some attendees don’t even know what they’re missing.

While CES attendance numbers dwarf most every industry trade event, T.H.E. Show doesn’t go unnoticed by everyone.

“We get around 5,000 attendees,” Beers told Digital Trends. “The press that cover high-end audio enjoy coming to see us. Anything new or innovative in high-end audio that is in Las Vegas is at T.H.E. Show.”

T.H.E. Show runs from January 8 to 11, 2013 at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.
