Is a Retina version of Adobe Photoshop CS6 coming in December?

Did Adobe just let slip that a Retina version of Photoshop CS6 is on the way?

Adobe recently released a teaser video for its upcoming Create Now Live event on December 11. But one thing in particular caught our eye. It seems the company may be releasing Photoshop CS6 for Retina screens.

In the video, it appears that Photoshop is running on a MacBook. Many blogs, including Japanese site, Macotakara, think that the computer in the video is a 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. While these rumors have yet to be confirmed, it makes sense that Adobe would be releasing Photoshop and CS6 software optimized for Retina MacBooks.

Back in August, Adobe announced that it would make Photoshop and other CS6 products compatible with Apple’s Retina screen, which is one of the highest resolution screens available. Adobe also said that it would be releasing the updated programs this fall.

While the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina has been available for some time, Apple just recently announced the 13-inch version during its iPad Mini event in October. Perhaps Adobe was waiting for Apple to release the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro before it released any updated software that would be compatible with the technology.

It also makes sense that Adobe will be releasing a Retina version for its most popular products, since it already released a Retina-compatible version for its Lightroom software earlier this month.

You can watch the 43-second clip below. Adobe will introduce new products at its Create Now Live event on December 11 at 10 a.m. PST, which you can watch live on YouTube. If you want to attend the virtual event, you can sign up on Adobe’s registration page.

Do you think Adobe will update its Photoshop and other Creative Suite 5 products for Apple’s Retina screen? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Home theater salesmen’ robbed at gunpoint in Florida probably had it coming

Two "home theater salesman" were robbed near Orlando Florida today when two men held them at gunpoint and took their van. Don't feel too bad for the salesmen, though. They probably had it coming.

Isn’t this supposed to be the time of cheer and goodwill toward one another? Apparently not for two real-world Grinches who robbed two “traveling home theater salesmen” at gun point, reports The Orlando Sentinel. The men were robbed at gunpoint, and their van was subsequently stolen. It was, of course,  loaded with “home theater equipment.”

The two “salesmen,” who are said to have been working for “Gulf Stream Audio and Theater Concepts”, were apparently lured by two teens at a gas station to go meet with two other men. Those two other men then proceeded to rob the home theater installers/salesmen.

The two salesmen were met by the suspects, Brandon Pitts, 25, and James Edward Walker, 20, at an apartment complex, at which point the suspects reportedly pulled guns on the salesmen and demanded the keys to the van. The van was recovered a short time later, sans gear.

The first notable head-scratcher in this story is the notion that such a thing as a traveling home theater salesman actually exists. But it was details surrounding the “home theater equipment” that officially set off the BS alarms here at Digital Trends.

If you can’t tell from our superfluous use of quotation marks, this whole story stinks like two week-old garbage from a Chinese food restaurant.

According to the report, the van contained seven “JVR home theater systems” and eight “Bach & Odin projectors and screens.” Ever heard of those brands? We hope not. They are bogus names designed to sound a lot like the brand names we’re all familiar with. Brands such as JVC, or Bang and Olufsen, in this case. Unfortunately, the electronics inside aren’t worth the ink printed on the box.

The garbage gear is prominently used as part of a White Van Speaker Scam – a skeevy practice so unfortunately popular, it has its own Wikipedia page and plenty of YouTube videos to go with it. In short, scammers  load up on cheap home theater gear intended to look like the real thing, then sell it in parking lots using any number of excuses to explain to unwitting buyers why they’re willing to let “name brand” gear go for so cheap.

From where we sit, the victims in this case had it coming. When cons get robbed, it’s hard to shed a tear. Still, theft is theft, and guns are guns.

Warrants have been issued for Pitts and Walker, who are still on the loose. Perhaps they’re laying low, about to discover how absolutely worthless their new speakers are. Serves ‘em right.

Anyone with information on the case can remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward by calling 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).

Ice Cream Sandwich update coming to some Xperia Ion users on AT&T

Android Central

Showing up quickly after the international Xperia Ion started to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update, the AT&T model of the same phone has started to show up in SuS -- Sony's PC companion software -- for some users over in the XDA forums. The AT&T model, LT28AT, is being pushed up to software build 6.1.c.1.105 which brings all of the features and visual cues associated with ICS. We won't know for sure what other fixes or changes are included in this update until AT&T spills the beans officially.

We'll see if the update starts to roll out to more users in the next couple days, and hopefully it'll start to come out over OTA rather than relying on Sony's PC software. Check your own device and let us know in the comments if you're seeing the update.

LG Optimus 4X HD coming to WIND and Videotron in October

4X HD

The folks at Mobile Syrup have received confirmation that the LG Optimus 4X HD will be coming to Canadian carriers WIND and VIdeotron in October. The Optimus 4X HD is a pretty spectacular device, packing a 1.5GHz Tegra 3 SoC, NFC and an 8MP camera under a beautiful 4.7-inch IPS True HD display. It's one of the best we've seen from LG.

On the software side, the 4X HD runs Ice Cream Sandwich, with a promise of a Jelly Bean update "soon". We don't put much stock on promises of updates from OEMs or carriers, so take this with a grain of salt. Also, interesting news for those of us south of the 54° 40' line -- WIND and Videotron both use the same AWS bands as T-Mobile in the states. Whether or not this means LG is talking to T-Mobile remains to be seen, but we've seen this play out that way before.

There's no word on pricing or an exact date yet, we'll keep an eye out for any news.

BBC iPlayer update coming today, will finally allow on device downloadsThe BBC will finally release an update to its UK only BBC iPlayer app that will bring downloads to your iPhone and iPad. The current version of iPlayer will only allow you to stream content to your device which has always been very limiting, especially if you are travelling. The news comes from The Guardian and the update should go live sometime today.

From Tuesday, licence-fee payers will be able to download BBC programmes from the iPlayer video-on-demand service and watch them offline on Apple's iPhone and iPad at no extra cost, including while abroad. The development marks a significant shift for BBC iPlayer, which has previously only allowed viewers to stream programmes to tablets and mobile devices with broadband connections or download them to watch on a desktop computer.

Daniel Danker, the BBC's general manager of on-demand programmes, said: "This fundamentally changes one of the most annoying restrictions about viewing programmes. It means audiences are liberated from the constraints and it fundamentally changes what it means to go on holiday. "He added: "With mobile downloads, you can now load up your mobile phone or tablet with hours and hours of BBC programmes, then watch them on the road, on the tube, on a plane, without worrying about having an internet connection or running up a mobile data bill."

Once you have downloaded a TV episode, you will have a total of thirty days to enjoy it, after that it will become unwatchable on your device. If you start watching a program, you will then only have a further seven days to finish watching it. Strange restrictions I know but it must have something to do with media copyright etc.

The download service which is believed to launch later today, will start off as a Wi-Fi only service. The BBC will hopefully expand this to work over 3G too although with today’s restrictive low quantity mobile data plans it may not be a much desired feature anyway. The BBC iPlayer service is free in the UK for all BBC Television licence payers and the download service will also be offered as a completely free service too.

Update: It's now live in the App Store

Download Now

I am extremely happy that the BBC has decided to introduce downloads to its iPhone and iPad apps. Being on a slow connection, streaming was never a great option for me, now I can download the programmes I want to see and watch them whenever I have time without the buffering and stuttering. If you are a BBC iPlayer user, are you happy about the new download functionality?

The way the title is worded "will finally allow" makes it sound like we were entitled to it. It's only been out for abut a year, great update by them though.

Reply Mercifull says: Sep 4, 2012 at 10:07 am - 21 hours ago

Yes but the international version of the app (the one you have to pay for and is not available in the uk) DOES let you download shows.

Reply exwindz says: Sep 4, 2012 at 10:24 am - 20 hours ago

because you pay for it, expecting something for nothing in this day and age, well... yeah.

Reply calum86 says: Sep 4, 2012 at 12:13 pm - 19 hours ago

By expecting something for nothing are you referring to the the fact that we pay approx £145 per year for access to BBC content?...
