Roku Mobile app now streams content from Android devices

Android Central

Roku has just updated the remote control app for their TV set-top box so you can also play content from your Android device on the big screen. This includes pictures and videos, as well as the usual access to web-based streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Crackle, and others. You can also launch into channels over voice with this new update, and name multiple Roku boxes whatever you like. A nice little perk of this update is that the app is now available in Canada, the U.K., and Ireland.

Roku's mobile app first launched on Android in March, but at that point it was pretty much strictly about controlling your Roku over Wi-Fi with simple stuff like volume and playback control, but this update seems to add a fair bit more functionality.

Amazon strikes content deal with EPIX for Prime Instant Video

Android Central

Online shopping retailer turned media delivery service and now hardware manufacturer Amazon has struck another content deal for its Prime Instant Video service, this time with EPIX. The deal should bring some much-welcomed big name titles, such as The Avengers, Iron Man 2, The Hunger Games and more. Amazon, which has historically had weaker streaming options when compared to Netflix, notes that its Prime Instant Video service has over 25,000 titles available for streaming with no downloading on every device that supports the service - such as the XBOX, PS3, Roku and of course Kindle Fire.

While we'll never look down on another content deal, we'd really like to see what new hardware Amazon has in store to watch some of the new titles. Of course we'll be following Amazon's announcements at their press event on Thursday, September 6th and hopefully we'll be seeing several new Kindle devices.

Be sure to check out the full press release from Amazon after the break.

New agreement will add popular new release movies like The Avengers, Iron Man 2, The Hunger Games, Super 8, Thor and more

Over 25,000 movies and TV episodes in Prime Instant Video available on Kindle Fire, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iPad and hundreds of connected TVs and Blu-Ray players

All Prime Instant Videos available to watch in seconds via instant streaming-no need to wait for download

Prime Instant Video continues to expand as another benefit of Prime membership, Kindle Fire ownership and one of the many unique advantages of Amazon's content ecosystem

Customers who are not yet Prime members can enjoy a free one month trial right out of the box with Kindle Fire, or sign up for a free trial at Amazon.com to enjoy on any device that streams Prime Instant Video

We can tell from the data that our customers love watching movies on Prime Instant Video. We think customers will really enjoy watching new titles like The Avengers, Iron Man 2 and The Hunger Games on their Kindle Fire, PlayStation 3, Xbox, iPad or any of the other of the Amazon Instant Video compatible devices."
